MARCH 2000 - NEWSLETTER OF OXFORD NONDESCRIPTS CRICKET CLUB

New Season

Persistent rain, freezing cold, blowing a gale, it can only mean one thing! Yes, the new cricket season is just around the corner. This year sees much change in League cricket with the formation of the Premier Leagues as a result of the ECB recommendations. Restructuring in the Cherwell League means that the Second XI are in the "fast track" division 3 set up, playing many other clubs 1st XI’s. Our own 1st XI are competing in the top flight of the League so both sides can expect tough seasons.

NEW PLAYERS

The progress of both sides in the Cherwell League means that this season the playing resources will be stretched. The Club is always looking for new blood, be it top players for the 1st XI, or guys that just want to play for fun on a Sunday. Do you know of anyone? Contact any of the Captains, the Chairman or the Secretary.

UMPIRES & SCORERS

The new League set up now means that the Second XI require an Umpire (Panel Umpires will be available for some fixtures). Do you know of anyone who may wish to don the white coat (regularly or occasionally)? Also a Second XI scorer would assist the boy Haynes greatly!

SUBSCRIPTIONS

I know that all you guys will have paid your subs by now! No one would ever think of playing before their subs were paid, would they?

For those who have inadvertently forgotten please forward your cheque post haste to the Treasurer: 5 Saxons Way, East Hagbourne, OX11 9RA

Cheques payable to ONCC

(Seniors £35 Juniors £12.50)

Overseas Player

This seasons Overseas player is Charlie Owens. Charlie is a team mate at Geelong of Aaron Muncey. He opens he bowling and bats a bit (don’t all Aussies?) Charlie arrives mid April and will require accommodation (paid). Does anyone know of someone with a room to rent?

INDOOR CRICKET

The team of Hawthorne, Cox, Salim, Ali, Donohue and Savage, secured the runners up spot of the Oxford section (to Sandford) to qualify for the finals night at Wantage. On that night victory over Challow ensured a rematch with Sandford in the regional final. Despite a fighting performance Sandford’s greater indoor experience saw them home. Runners up in Oxfordshire however is a great achievement. While all players contributed, Will Savage found that indoor cricket was very much to his liking!

Pre-season nets

Nets have been arranged at Oxford Brookes University on the following dates:
